Garret dragged himself down the stairs, alternately scratching his chest (encased as it was in white cotton) and rubbing an absent cowlick.

Tess Harper was frying bacon.

"Tess, I don't want to go to the set of The Sarah Connor Chronicles today. Can't we just ditch work and go to a pub and get drunk before the awards?"

Tess pointed her spatula at him, for she was also making delicious buttermilk pancakes from scratch. "Now Garret, you don't get to be a successful character actor with an attitude like that. I once shot an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger*. You can certainly go to work with Lena Headey for a day before we go take awkward photos on the red carpet." She set a stack of pancakes in front of him.

He sullenly set his chiseled chin on his forearms.

"Can you at least make me a smiley face on my pancake with the bacon."

Tess furrowed at him.

"And strawberries for eyes?"

"Do you promise to behave and be a good Terminator today?"

"Ohhhhhhhkay."

After his third pancake, Garret asked if he could also trip Josh Brolin at the afterparty. Tess Harper smiled and did not say yes or no.

That was good enough for Garret. Almost better than pancakes.
