1) Visited Mike and Kate. Had a day in Boston, then spent several days on Martha's Vineyard. Read one book (Marrying the Ketchups), abandoned another (Mrs Fletcher by Tom Perrotta... sorry, Tom, don't think I'll be reading that so I left it amongst the Martha's-set mysteries and paperback Stephen Kings), a lot of good conversation and food, re-learned how to play War (a skill-less game that, like Uno, will wind a person up), watched Cats completely sober with Kate (oof mah GOOF), then came home.
2) I'm nearly done with S3 Starstruck already so I need another romantic comedy series to watch, preferably one starring one or more Kiwi actors. Anyone have any recs?
3) One of my fave podcasts was recently grousing about S3 Only Murders. Is that the consensus? That this season is Not Good? I've been enjoying it enough!
4) I'm really back into live comedy again after seeing several stand-up shows in the past few months. I have one more plus a live podcast whatchamadinger lined up in the coming months. It's slower going with live theater, partially because this is not Chicago and partially because seasons for tour and local stuff have been hit-or-miss (or, more frequently, because *cough* I saw things either in NYC or Chicago before they made their way here).
5) ... Our Flag Means Death S2 is in two more sleeps. I'm... mildly excited.
ETA: Oh, I'm also watching S2 Welcome to Wrexham. Over in the UK and those parts, they call it FOOTBALL!

Date: 2023-10-03 01:55 am (UTC)Thank God A Certain Show is coming back soon!!!!!
This is a movie rather than a TV show, but I thought Baby Done starring Rose Matafeo and Neville Longbottom was pretty charming! A few shows with romcom elements that I have really enjoyed, though they are tragically w/o Kiwis and just w/ British people: Mum BBC (on BritBox; this is one of my faves eveerrr), Trying (Apple+), Catastrophe (which I guess is kind of old now? But still a caustic romance standout to me!), & Lovesick (Netflix). Also, have you seen Deadloch? Have we talked about Deadloch already? (Disclaimer: not a romcom so much as a murdercom, but full of Kiwi-induced delight from Madeleine Sami.)
I've been enjoying this season of OMITB too! It did not occur to me that anyone could not be?? Sorry Meryl being effervescent in braids isn't enough for you, podcast people!

Date: 2023-10-03 02:11 am (UTC)Agreed on Meryl! Also Cinda Canning returned! I mean, Mabel's love interest is kind of a dud (as always? I mean despite Oscar, I guess. He was fine.) but otherwise the mystery has been solid enough and the shenanigans are delightful. What are people coming for, I wonder?

Date: 2023-10-05 10:43 pm (UTC)Also, you know how I am pop culture ignorant a lot. And I knew that Selena was a Disney girl and I guess a singer, but I didn't really see her in anything or pay attention to her until this show. I've really enjoyed her on it. So I watched her 2022 documentary, My Mind and Me, on AppleTV, and was blown away. I really did not understand how much of a famous phenomenon she was, nor did I know anything about her mental breakdowns. I had missed her whole famous life until this show. D'oh!

Not sure how you feel about K drama but God I loved Attorney Woo. Totally unrealistic and a little uneven but so pleasurable.

Date: 2023-10-09 02:34 pm (UTC)I have never partook (partaken? parboiled?) a K drama, but I'll take a look at it.
In closing: Cats. Sober. Two word review: unsettling shitpile.
